Leading wireless communications provider in North America ($2B+ revenue). Services include mobile phone service, wireless handsets, and paging services. In addition, the company is part of a larger Telecom company offering a full range of communications services for voice, data, and video.

CLIENT CHALLENGE

The client needed to ensure that the software delivered by multiple vendors maintained adequate End to End performance for key transaction response times and concurrent users. In addition, the client was unsatisfied with the code quality in the pre-production platform and wished to develop an automated acceptance capability.

QUALITY CERTAIN’S OBJECTIVE AND APPROACH

Quality Certain provided support of planning and execution of full end to end performance tests. Quality Certain reviewed and re-designed the test strategy for performance and led the overall effort for performance test design and execution. In additional, Quality Certain implemented its Test Automation Methodology centered aroundacceptance test to be run on a weekly code release.

RESULTS

The performance of the application was validated and several performance bottlenecks were identified and mitigated. In addition, the client was able to quickly validate the system stability in an automated fashion on weekly code drop. 2000 test cases were automated and the acceptance test time was reduced from 4 resources in six days to one resource in 4 hours.

THE CLIENT

A Global financial Industry ($5 Billion in Revenue), Services include Banking and financial services to consumers, retailers and corporate entities. In addition, the company is available in United States, United Kingdom, ASIA and 10 African countries.

CLIENT CHALLENGE

The client had major issues using the payment and collection platform that was built for salary payment, vendor payments and collection services. In addition, the client was unsatisfied with the code quality in the-production platform and wished to perform an end-to-end test from scratch.

QUALITY CERTAIN’S OBJECTIVE AND APPROACH

Quality Certain provided support of planning and execution of full end to end tests.

Quality Certain reviewed the business requirements and recommended it should be re-designed with all the stake-holders participation. Quality Certain also recommended a total overhaul of the code. Quality Certain developed a test strategy, test plan, new test cases and scenarios with execution. Quality Certain developed a test strategy for performance and led the overall effort for performance test design and execution. Additionally, Quality Certain implemented its Test Automation Methodology centered around acceptance test to be run on a quarterly code release.

RESULTS

The solution was rebranded, tested and has been in use without complaint since then. Prior to that a single transaction could not be processed without a manual operation.

The solution provided has been able to expand and provide the usage of the platform to seven new banks.

Several performance bottlenecks were identified and mitigated. The application could not support more than 125 users and upload of 500 transactions but now it functions well with over 2800users and uploads 20000 transactions without a problem.

The client had major issues with Test Governance, Test Processes , Test Planning and Execution in one of the countries. In addition, the client was unsatisfied with the code quality in the-production platform and wished to perform a better Testing Approach to improve the code quality.

The Client wanted a holistic approach to determine all the issues related to software testing and also the best way to address the issues. They requested for an Assessment on their present Software testing and Quality Assurance approach. Quality Certain was contracted to perform an assessment of their testing function and provide a road map to address issues and challenges found.

RESULTS

The assessment was provided over a 12 week period on 22 process Areas. The areas are Organization, Organization Process Definition, Organization Process Focus, Test Organization, Governance, People Focus, Training, Communication, Tools, Requirement Management, Project Management, Measurement Analysis, Configuration Management, Change Management, Environmental Management, Data Management, Integration Management, Estimation, Defect Management, Release Management, Process Quality Management and Risk Management.

The assessment revealed that an independent testing organization needs to be in place, Test Automation is very key. Training is missing around test execution, requirement gathering, test case development etc.

Quality Certain has been contracted to build a Testing COE for the Client and also develop an Automation Testing Framework.
